Volunteer Portal
Hello confirmed volunteers! We're so excited to hear you'll be volunteering with us on East Limestone Island this coming summer. On this page, we have consolidated key information for you, in advance of your time here. Please make sure you review it all, and complete the associated tasks.
Your Checklist
Fill out your forms. Submit Health Information and Liability Release (Note: if you applied online, you will have already done this!). Please ensure your tetanus vaccination is current.
Make your donation. Make your $400 donation to Laskeek Bay. Information on how to do this is on the Support Us page. You're welcome to fundraise and have individuals donate through our website on your behalf. Please note, this is a minimum donation request which only just covers your food and travel to East Limestone Island, therefore if you able or willing to donate any additional funds they would go toward general operating expenses and would be greatly appreciated.
Review resources. Review the volunteer guide, the packing list and the travel information package.
Book your flights and accommodation. Be sure to plan your arrival and departure a minimum of 1 day before/after your scheduled transport to ELI. Since all transport occurs on Friday, you should arrive in Haida Gwaii on Thursday at the latest, and leave the following Saturday at the earliest.
Share your details. Let us know where you will be staying and how we can reach you on the night before your scheduled departure for ELI. This is essential for organizing your pick-up (see below).
Ask questions! Not sure of something? Send us an email!

Getting to East Limestone Island Information
On every Friday of our field season, our boat driver organizes a volunteer and supply pick up/drop off. In order to make this a success (and to get you to/from Limestone), please keep the following things in mind:
Going to ELI: Please make sure our staff knows where you will be staying so our field camp driver knows where to meet you:
If you're staying in Daajing Giids or Skidegate (Graham Island), our field camp driver will pick you up on Friday morning. Our crew catches the 7:00am OR 8:00am ferry (exact timing depends on our other travel logistics, you will be notified the night before exactly which morning ferry we will be catching) from Skidegate Landing.
If you're staying in Sandspit (Moresby Island), the field camp driver will pick you in Sandspit, after the field crew gets off the early morning ferry, (you will be notified the night before exactly what time to expect pick-up).
Transport to ELI: The open boat is exposed to the elements, and you will need to travel in waterproof boots or beach sandals to disembark at the rocky beach on East Limestone Island. There is no dock, you will need to wade a short distance to shore. Please bring warm layers and spare footwear! Please pack water and snacks/lunch as it takes most of the day to get to field camp.
Coming home from ELI: You can stay in either Sandspit or Daajing Giids on the Friday night that you get back from ELI. We will take you to your accommodations by late afternoon, but weather and tides may cause delays, so flights and ferry bookings to leave Haida Gwaii are not recommended on these Fridays after field camp.
Note: If you need to get in touch with your fellow volunteers, to share travel logistics, email laskeek@laskeekbay.org for their email address.
