Welcome to our online store! Here you will find a variety of unique products inspired by Haida Gwaii. Our children’s books, Children of the Sea, and A Raven Conspiracy written by Tony Gaston, and illustrated by Judy Hilgemann, are fabulous gifts. Children of the Sea features an inspiring story about the Ancient Murrelet life cycle, suitable for all ages, and great for those who like to read chapter books to children. A Raven Conspiracy is recommended for older children, with a climate change theme and longer chapters.
Our t-shirts feature artwork from local artists. Our cards feature famous species and landmarks from Laskeek Bay. The cedar planks are made out of local wood with a minimalist logo of just LBCS. These items are wonderful gifts or personal mementos from time spent on East Limestone Island.
All proceeds go directly to Laskeek Bay Conservation Society to support our many projects and goals.
Set in the magical islands of Haida Gwaii, off the west coast of Canada. Follow the travels and adventures of Krah, an intelligent and resourceful raven, who crosses the wide Pacific to speak at the Kag-moot, a gathering of all the world’s ravens. After long deliberation, the ravens decide to hide some children, being the one thing that all humans value highly. To carry their message to people, they enlist the help of holy men who support their cause. The children and the ravens soon make friends and together they begin to awaken the older generation to the harm that their wasteful way of life is doing to the earth.
Children of the Sea: First Edition, printed in 2019 by Laskeek Bay Conservation Society.
The Ancient Murrelet is a bird that comes to land in Canada only on the remote islands of Haida Gwaii, off the north coast of British Columbia. For mother and father Murrelet, land is a dangerous place: their true element is the sea. But they have to brave the risk of coming ashore to raise their annual brood. Children Of The Sea describes their time on land and the amazing adventure of the chicks between their nest and the ocean shores. Written by Tony Gaston, an expert on the biology of the Ancient Murrelet, the book is both an adventure story and a true outline of the species' breeding behaviour and is beautifully illustrated by Haida Gwaii-based artist Judy Hilgemann. Suitable for children 5-8 years old.
Authored by Anthony (Tony) Gaston, a founding member of Laskeek Bay Conservation Society, a naturalist and a writer who has been studying Ancient Murrelets in Haida Gwaii since 1984.
Illustrated by Judy Hilgemann, an artist and illustrator living on Haida Gwaii.
