During our first week on East Limestone Island, volunteers will be involved in the following tasks and activities:

  • Opening up the field camp,

  • Setting up funnels for Ancient Murrelets throughout the forest and monitoring them every other night (11pm - 2am)

  • Monitoring wildlife trees,

  • Monitoring Pigeon Guillemot nestboxes,

  • Conducting at-sea surveys and marine mammal counts & monitoring,

All volunteers will work alongside our Biologist and Assistant Biologist/Interpreter, who will provide training and expertise.

Please note that this is an intense week with quite a bit of manual labour involved in setting up the camp.

During our second week on East Limestone Island, volunteers will be involved in the following tasks and activities:

  • Capturing and weighing Ancient Murrelet chicks (10 pm to 2am every other night)

  • Hosting local school groups that help with Ancient Murrelet monitoring

  • Camera monitoring Pigeon Guillemot nestboxes,

  • Conducting at-sea surveys and marine mammal counts & monitoring,

  • Inventorying rare plants,

  • Monitoring wildlife trees.

All volunteers will work alongside our Biologist and Assistant Biologist/Interpreter, who will provide training and expertise.

Please note that this is an intense week: the hours are longer than other weeks, with a lot of getting in and out of boats onto rugged, slippery shorelines.
